  1. Social Medias helps people interact and share things with other people. There is also a thing called over sharing which can cause a major problem especially in the workforce. Lobato has all the reasons to get fired. He didn't have to post negative comments about his company due to his sickness. Many company's watch as well as there employees so sometimes over sharing something can get someone into a lot of trouble or even fired from his/her job.

  2. Joe Lobato made a huge error in judgment. How many stories do we keep hearing about this exact situation? The internet is not a private network for just your friends and family. I find it to be ironic that people who live and die by social networking are completely oblivious to its power. I knew a Marine who was dishonorably discharged for posting photos of his escapades while he was on leave. Joe didn’t stand a chance to keep his metal shop job. Employers don’t want you criticizing your job live on the internet. Joe made a terrible judgment call and is suffering grave consequences for his act. I don’t have any hope that people will learn from this lesson.

  3. The actions took against Joe Lobado were unfortunate just like the others who got fired for similar accusations; from a public forum. It’s correct that we have the right to speak freely however we want, but venting problems or negative comments towards your employer can have serious consequences. If there was a problem with your employer, the most appropriate way of dealing with it is privately in his/her office. Not only did Lobado dishonor his employer from his post but also wrote that post while he was on the job. According to Scott Robinson, a legal analyst you can sue the employer for your job back, however it’s very unlikely especially in Lobado’s case.

Social Media can be both a good and a bad thing depending how a person use it. In Lobato's case he used it the wrong way, people should know by now that whatever you post online is not just for you but the world. He’s the one that place himself in that situation, by posting those things that were unnecessary. Having to do that during work made the situation worse, his not only making himself look bad but the company as well. The company had every right to fire him, because his comment ruined their reputation.

  5. I believe good companies appreciate and reward loyalty, and part of being loyal is to prevent gossip and scandal, just like something my mother says, "Do your dirty laundry at home". I can't truly tell if Joe had rightful grounds to complain, but it is not professional and it's not going to fix the issue to go online and talk about it, there must be another more appropiate way to do so. We need to be aware of what we share online and what consequences could bring us; using the internet is a double-edged sword.

  6. I think the measures taken for Lobato's actions were understandable. No business owner or employer would want to be bad mouthed by an employee. Lobato shouldn't have been on Facebook at work anyway and then for him to talk poorly about his employer at the same time only added fire to the flame. I think as time goes on, the social media puts a lot of pressure on people. They think that in order to gain respect by others on these social networks they have to show themselves as dope or cool, they have to be overly and/or harshly funny and they have to over share everything that happens in their lives. People today are doing this more and more just because they have this “I don’t care” attitude that will lead them into trouble just like Lobato.

  7. Oversharing intimate details on Facebook, a website page or any social media is always a bad idea. People can suffer serious consequences like Lobato. Nowadays everyone has Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Do not overexpose yourself. The internet has opened us up to a world of greater communication, but at the same time distanced us from privacy. Expose too much information on the internet like personal pictures or complaints can damage people's image. I think that with moderation and discretion people can curb the ill-effects of the internet.

  8. The decision Joe made to rant online was not smart, because if there is a problem in the work place you take it to human resources or you search for legal help. The company is also at fault not caring for it employees making sure that the are healthy enough to to work is a priority. The company that hired Joe should apologies or making him work under harsh conditions, because they don't realize each worker has a family to take care of. Joe should take the incident to court and fight for his rights to work under a healthy a healthy condition.

  9. Lobato did seem to have a lapse in judgement, however he did what felt natural, communicate his aggression, although he might not have used the best means to do so in my opinion. When you post anything on any social media outlet, the reality of the matter is that it is not private, by any means of the word. On the other hand, when you post something through social media, you do expect to feel at least slightly better and at ease in "knowing" that your main audience will be your peers and family. Unfortunately that was not the case in Lobato's situation. It is unfortunate that the consequences were more harsh than you might think while typing up a short status such as Lobato's, but that is the case many times. It is usually best to keep aggression away from media outlets, in this case, that might have spared an unfortunate situation.

  10. Social medias may have some advantages if people know how to use it, as well as some drawbacks if people are oversharing. People should be aware of what they are posting online. Many people believe that it is safe to share everything; however it is not . In the case of Lobato because of oversharing his matter on facebook, he happened to lost something that was really important in his life. He had lost something that wasn't matter only to him but also his family. A person's Privacy should only matter to the person in question and the one close to him/her. A whole public is not necessarily need to be included or invited to a person's everyday activity on social media. People should stop oversharing things online, keep their privacy and have some self-respect.

  11. It wasnt far that this man was fired for be sick or for posting about it. The boss was invading his privacy by going on his Facebook. He should have been given his job back. David Sainvilus

  12. Any kind of social media is mostly used to interact with friends, family, and people but when somebody start talking about a company or your own job that's where it could backfire on you. How in happen in this instance, I don't agree with the employee getting fired because if he was feeling really bad and was not allowed to leave from work that much tells you how they care for employes ;however, posting on the social media will no solve the problem I think he should have handled the situation different, but I did learn something from this video personally think twice but you will post online.

  13. Social media facilitates open communication and targets a wide audience, making it a useful and effective recruitment tool. Everyone should use it as a way of communication. Network shouldn't be a media where to post his privacy or intimacy. Lobato overshared on his page. He didn't have to post what happened to him in his job. This is private. I think this is a good example and now people should be careful and stop publishing their privacy.

  14. I really like this article! Social media nowadays can be a good or a bad thing. In my opinion there are thousands and maybe millions of people who interact with one another through social media. Anyway people should be aware of what they are posting on Facebook. In this specific case, I don't see a reason Joe Lobato being fired. He never mentioned the company's name, neither offended somebody while sharing his post. Actually, he was reported by his friend. We are all human beings and we need to try to understand each other. Some of your co-workers ''friends'' telling the boss everything on your page. For that reason adding every employee in your team on Facebook is not smart move.

  15. Social media is huge part of our society. It can have its benefits and it’s down falls as we saw with Joe Lobato and other cases. If Lobato felt that he was being mistreated he should of reported his boss instead of going on social media to express how he felt because in the end he lost his job over it. Also, sharing negative comments about a company can affect the business and not only did Lobato overshare his feelings he did it while he was on duty. Social media is said to also be private but now companies hire people to just look up things on their employees to see what they post and if it will have a negative outlook on the company or maybe a co-worker will see what you post and report it to the boss as in the Lobato situation. This goes to show to watch what you post and when you are posting it.

  16. I do not think that Labato should have been fired for speaking his mind. He was clearly upset because of his employer therefore he was verbal about it. I do believe that no one was looking at the big picture when he was fired. His employer did not let him take a break when he was not feeling well which is inhuman of him to do. I also do not think that speaking negatively about work situations on social media sites should be prohibited. It is wrong to say negative things about your job because they are, in the end, the ones that give you a paycheck. If someone is unhappy with their job they should take positive steps to help their situation not damage it. Labato though unfortunately was fired something very ridiculous, his comment was not at all what I expected, and definitely not enough to get him fired.

  17. Social media can helpful ,but dangerous at the same time depends on what you decided to post. There is a limit of things that you can post because whatever you posted on the social media, the whole world can see it. That situation with this man should have been handled differently, truly, He didn't have no right to post about what he is been through at work, what's the point of it? really. Personally,I learn that you can get yourself in trouble when posting via media stuff that's inappropriate.
