  1. I enjoyed the class and happy to have had the opportunity to work with 3 of my classmates, allowing me to get to know a little about them. I wish we had more group projects, interactions, and more class participation. Best part or what I liked the most, I have to say were the individual presentations.

  2. This class was absolutely excellent. Prof. Canuto made a class that seems to be uninteresting, a fun filled, action-packed, extremely comedic, awesome class. The only part of the class that was kind of a drag to me, was the week prior leading to the midterm. It seemed to take awhile before the midterm came, as if it meant to haunt me. However, as time passed the class became more lively again and I got excited to go to class again. My favorite part was the personalized speech, which is where I had the most fun. I absolutely loved this class.

  3. I think the question to ask myself " Is what didn't I learn from this course?" Thinking back to the first day of class my thoughts were "Isn't this class common sense" but the truth is there is more to human communication then we know! That was definitely one thing that I can take with me. Knowing that made me learn that there are many ways in having a conversation with someone and how to deal with arguments. This can help me with future friends, boyfriends, job interviews, and etc... I will know about misconceptions, about perceptions, physical needs, and how communication is also about listening. My favorite part of the class was how comfortable we were with each other when we shared stories or when we stated how we felt about certain topics that came up. On top of that we all never failed in bringing humor to the class and to our conversations, it brought us closer. I don't think I can think of anything that I disliked, but if there was something that I wanted to be different it would have been to get to know more of the unique students in that class. Overall, I am glad that I was able to partake in a class that not only had awesome students, but a wonderful professor. I'm going to make sure I bring all my knowledge from this class and transfer it on my daily life situations so that way it can have positive results.

  4. Coming into this course I had no expectations, only fear. After taking this class I now have so much more confidence in my ability to speak in front of others. The lessons really made me more aware of how I communicate with others, and this awareness has helped me to change my ways of communication that needed work. I can use the information I learned from this course and use it all throughout my life and in my relationships with others. The videos definitely made this course enjoyable and Ms.Canutos calm and relaxed attitude made it easy to open up! Great course!

I simply love Professor Canuto! Not only she is super cool, but she is also a wonderful teacher! In the beginning, I was not a big fan of the fact that we had a mandatory group speech but in the end, my group was simply great! We rocked a great speech and being about Italy, it was a piece of cake for me. In this class, I not only improved on how to speak properly but also on how to write an essay. Being an ESL student scared me at first, but in the end not so much. While I am not still a big fan of group homework, it is part of the game. I was able to make a few new friends and in the end, I was glad I chose professor Canuto! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year or in my native Italian, Buon Natale e Felice Anno Nuovo!

  6. I think that all is said. Personally, I have learned how to improve my communication skills and I´ve learned all the communication vias that exists. Before, I could imagine them because of the common sense, but not all of them and how they work. Improving my written skills was one of my biggest challenges, but during this semester I think I also improved it. The group presentation was also a very good experience, i had there the opportunity to know good persons and share a little bit of time with them, knowing a bit more of them and, of course learning from them, because of this thank you all!!

  7. Finally a cool class that gets to the point fast! We were all organized, the study material for the exams have been perfect, instructions for the reaction paper have been clear as a bell. I really learned the specific "scientific" facts about communication. The best part was being able to do the presentations. Personally I enjoyed my own solo presentation much better. Overall the class has been filled with laughs and plenty of learning, thanks for the experience. 10/10

  8. Coming into college, I actually thought this class would be boring. I thought every class, we would have to do speeches or group speeches but we did not. This class was my favorite class this semester. I learned how to interact, get my point across, and understand people better. I realize that technology has become the source of communication which leads to a lot of misinterpretations. From this course I will take away a lot but, most importantly listening instead of hearing and becoming more open-minded because we all see the world differently. When we all give our opinion and can relate to the topics it is an easier way to communicate. This class was never a dull moment.

  9. I have to say this was a useful, and at the same time entertaining class. Ms. Canuto is very well organised and will help you achieve your goals not only in her class, but in school overall. My favorite part of this semester was the individual speech as it allowed all students to share something they are passionate about. when I signed up for this class, i really felt like it was going to be a very boring class, but gladly i was wrong. Ms. Canuto make this class a breeze mixed with useful information and elaborate entertaining YouTube clips. Im glad i had the luck to land in Canuto's class.

  10. I have never taken a speech class before and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome of it. Not only did this class make me a better communicator, but it did so in a way that was very easy to grasp and apply in almost every aspect of my life. Another great thing that came out of this class was that we got to work in groups. I usually don't enjoy it but I certainly recognize the importance of being able to work with others. Luckily, I got to work with an awesome group and that went very smoothly. As if that wasn't enough i also learned how to make a spanish omelet, so there's that. All in all it was a great time full of laughs and learning: the perfect ingredients for a successful class.

  11. Coming into this class i had a very good feeling I was going to enjoy it and like Ms. Canuto. she is cool, funny, loves what she does and makes learning interesting. i leave this class with a more understanding about speeches and how to organize it and use this new bound knowledge with me into my career as an actor.
PS love the whole bob marley music in the mourning, it keeps my mind at peace, thank you

  12. This class was awesome and I really soak in a lot from the teaching on down to the individual speeches and the group projects I really enjoyed this class every since the first day of school which was the best experience that anybody can ever have in professor canuto's class. I would recommend this class to others, from the youtube videos and the jokes that the class tells is just like one big happy family in this class everybody getting along with each other.. I am glad that I had an opportunity to have you as a Professor.

  13. I have no words to describe how I feel about this class… To be honest, all I can say is that I loved it. Professor Canuto is an excellent teacher and she made this course interesting and fun to attend. At the beginning I thought that I was not going to enjoy the 14 chapters, the reaction papers, the group and the individual presentations, but now I look back and I have to admit that I learned a lot from each of them. This class was my favorite class of this semester and I really got to improve my communication skills… I wish all my classes would be like this one, organized, fun, interesting and with a great professor that understands her students. Finally, I am glad I was part of this class.

  14. I learned a lot from this course too much to name but one thing I did learn is it's okay to be nervous when you're presenting and everything doesn't have to be perfect cause you're still learning. I will think about that during future projects and presentations. My favorite part of the class was when videos were played that had something to do with what we were learning and the individual projects. Seeing what everyone was capable of preparing and basically giving the class some knowledge on their behalf. I like the class itself: the professor, the classmates, and the environment itself. When I walked into the classroom, I just knew that was day was going to be joyful and that motivated me because that was my first class of the day. Wish I can have you for a class next semester because this was actually my favorite class but thank you for everything :)

  15. First off all Ms. Canuto is a great teacher. She made the class fun and she is also very cool, smart and well educated. Words don't do it justice cause I've learned a lot and now i can take this knowledge with me into my career as an actor. Thank you
PS love the whole Bob Marley music before class, its relaxing and keeps me at peace.

  16. I didn't think I'd learn a single thing from this class, but I actually learned a lot. Aside from all the specifics about human communication, I learned that writing about something you're actually interested in can make all the difference. My favorite part was probably writing the reaction papers. I thought I'd hate it but I really liked it. Honestly, I loved this class, the only thing I don't like is the fact that it has to end. I wish I could stay your student Ms. Canuto YOU'RE AWESOME!!!

  17. This class was and amazing experience. I have learned so much from Professor Canuto. She made the class funny, educational, and personal. The class was so open with one another and it made the environment comfortable. Although i tend to be a nervous public speaker, i actually enjoyed our speeches because i got to present something i knew to the class. The individual speech was actually my favorite because i chose a subject that really meant a lot to me and that i knew a lot about. I have learned many techniques to calm my nerves for a speech and it was honestly a great experience, all thanks to the teacher.

I signed up for speech for pretty much the same reason why most students do; because it’s required. Regardless that it was a mandatory course I was looking forward to it because I know I have a problem with public speaking. I assumed the class was just going to be motivational quotes and frequent oral exams, but I learned that there is an actual science to communication. The most important thing that I will take from this course is to practice my speech when I have a presentation; I notice that more evident public speaking mistakes (stuttering, pausing, looking at notes/board) nearly vanish when I practice what I plan to say. My favourite part of the course would probably be the energy of the classroom, the room was always filled with such a nice energy and I very much enjoyed that. My least favourite part would of course be the part where I had to actually do public speaking but it wasn’t as bad as I expected. In the end I did enjoy the course and it definitely improved my communication abilities.

I loved this course I wouldn’t change a thing except for the mandatory speeches. I was a not a fan of that but I really learned a lot of important things to consider being an effective speaker. Not only am I knowledgeable about how to understand other cultures and diversities but I also have a little confidence to able to speak out in public. I love the Reggae music in the mourning it made the atmosphere more relaxing. I loved the people in my group I didn’t like it at first because I’m super shy but I’m glad to have worked with such lovely people. Thank you Prof. Canuto!!! The videos made this course more enjoyable.

  20. Since the beginning of the class I thought the class was only about speech and how to overcome any obstacle we towards shyness in speaking in public. But coming to class on the regular basis really help me see that this course is much more than just a regular speech class. I learned from this journey how to communicate alot better than I first started this course. For future guidance I will use the communication skills I learned from you to apply on my everyday life with my peers. Applying everything I gained from you and my fellow classmates will help me in the future be more successful in Job field and in everyday aspects life has to offer. The only thing I can say that I disliked that we didnt have more time with you... Because you made my learning experience one that I can always look back at and say Ms.Louise is the reason why I have so much knowledge on how people communicate... Peace one LOVe

  21. Leaving this class had taught me to loose the fear of public speaking, after each presentation I was able to communicate better and be able to speak fluently. Public speaking isn't easy, this class made me able to learn not only about public speaking but the ability to communicate. Even though this class is a requirement I had the eagerness to be in it due to I like to speak and hear what other people have to say. The class was better than I expected, and Ms. Canuto was pretty cool, all these presentations and written paper made us write and speak better. So in all we accomplished a lot in this semester. And what is a classroom without music? that was the icing to the cake, everyone felt comfortable in class and were able to speak out. One of the best class I've been part of.

Ive always considered myself as a mediocre speaker; thanks to you and the course i have lots of confidence and no longer do I have problems with speaking in public. My absolute favorite part of the course has to be the way you compliment the courses material with videos. It helped me understand the topics and be more involved in the course. Truthfully i loved the course but if i had to choose something or wish it wasnt there it would be those darn uncomfortable chairs! thank you for taking your time in making this course interesting, fun, and informative. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

After 4 months of taking this class i can say that i'm walking away with a vast amount of knowledge that i did not have before. For a mandatory class, speech was very enjoyable and gave me the tools i needed to grow and become a better speaker. As an aspiring Business owner and financial expert, speech has taught me how to voice my thoughts and opinions in an organized, and entertaining way. I would not have changed anything about this speech class, we went at a great pace which gave me the time to truly learn all the info that was given to me. The Speeches taught me that preparation is key when you are given the chance, it also opened my eyes as to what kind of speaker i am. Over all this was a great course, Thank you Ms. Canuto!

When I registered for speech I was hoping to get exactly what I received! Professor Canuto was really really helpful! I, like all other students in MDC, was required to sign up for and speech class, but this class was very interesting and prepared me a lot for was coming next in my life. Communicating has never been easy for me, since my native language is not English and I believe I will always be a little enbarraased to speak to others. Now i realized that my words could get anyone's attention if I know how to communicate them. I am really thankful for the help Professor Canuto gave me.

This class was one of my favorite classes.I was always looking forward to attending your classes. It was nerver boring, you kept things entertaining, fun and also eductional. You made everyone feel extremely comfortable, we would be so open with each other.Shared many many stories. I've never experienced a class that I can be that open with. My least favorite part was probably the individual presentation, its horrible standing infront of class, with eyes all on you. But overall I loved your class, you're absolutely AMAZING!

  26. No lie I am going to really miss this class. Although I never actually participated in any of the activities, I really enjoyed this course. I've learned many new things from your class. Things that vary from the different types of communications, to relationships, and working in groups. I will take mostly everything I've learned from this course with me. My favorite part was the beginning of the class, when all you did was lecture and we took notes. I didn't like the individual presentations, because for one I am very shy! If I could do it all over again, I would and It'll be way much better than my previous one. Ms. Canuto was very cool, funny, sweet and intelligent. I hope I see you again soon. She made the class quite interesting.

  27. Nicole Mondelo,
I learned from this clase how to communicate myself with the people around me. I think this clase is really helpful to lose the fear of public speaking or hels to control it .
The part of the clase that i most liked was to make my group presentation because I meet new people that have the same mayor than me or have common interest. The least part of the corse that I liked was to make my presentation alone because usually im nervous to public speaking and i didn't had anybody next to me to makes me feel more clam when i was doning the presentation. I like this couse so much because I learn new topics that was so helpful to understand how can I be more expressive with the people around me. Thank you so much professor Canuto and I hope you have a wonderful christmas and a happy new year.

  28. Hands down one of the more enjoyable courses I've taken here in Dade. Coming in I thought It'd be just some other mandatory class that made you take notes and couple of tests. Although the notes were there, the class turned out to be very interactive and Prof.Canuto you made the material so much more fun and easier to learn with all the videos, activities and I cant forget the music. I came out from this course knowing so much more about myself and how to properly speak in front of others. It definitely has helped me in my personal and profess. career. If there's one thing I'd change about this semester I'd be that i didn't get to present my individual speech and missing more classes than I would've liked due to work, etc. and that its now over. But I'll always remember you as that sweet, funny easy going person that taught me so much. Thank you for everything Prof. Louise, hope to see you around, Happy Holidays!! and I wish you the best.

The things that I learned in this class are:

to stop being insecure every time that I have to speak because english is not my first language
to learn how to work in a group
to learn how to communicate with others
to learn how to make a good speech

And the part of the class that I liked the most was when the professor shows us videos, they were very interesting.
    :)

  30. When I found out I would have to take speech during the fall, I was honestly really anxious because public speaking has always made extremely nervous. Even when I found out we would have two speeches at the beginning of the semester, I was dreading the class but I am being completely honest when I say I think this class has made me so much more comfortable speaking in front of people. I still feel nerves but now I use them as a rush rather than a negative feeling. Prof. Canuto made the class very comfortable with personal anecdotes and funny videos that got everyone to put their two cents in. Even working in groups, taught me and i think many others too that you have to colaborate with everyone and that the end result can still be good even if you don't always agree.

I think the only thing I would change would be to have more speeches! Just to be fully comfortable. But thank you for a great semester and a fantastic class!

i'm going to start by saying that this class was amazing! the professor was great and i learned so many different things this semester. the implication of funny pictures and clips in her slides made it easier to retain the information. i learned how to work in groups and it helped me to be less nervous when presenting in public. the part that i liked the most about the class was when we had some gender conflicts.
i would recommend professor Canuto to anyone.
thank you for everything and Happy Holidays

  32. Between Professor Canuto and my fellow classmates, I enjoyed this class very much. I learned what it is to work in a focus group, I learned speech etiquette, and I also learned how to comfort an audience during a speech with the exception of having consideration for others. I have learned a lot about myself taking this course. My favorite part of this class was when Prof. had us in groups testing out our listening skills. I found it so entertaining because I never knew it can be so hard to listen when your ears work perfectly fine, I do wish that I can take this course again . For the most part, I wished that the reviews for the midterm could have been more elaborated as the final review. But I really had fun in this class! Happy Holidays everyone, Enjoy & Be SAFE!

  34. I never thought I would like this class but when I got into it I loved it. The annoying group projects didn't end up being that bad i met new people, and learned quite a bit about my group members. I also learned a lot about communication, like the different faces and body language people give off actually tell something about them, how their feeling at the moment, and how they feel about the person their communicating with. I'll definitely communicate better from this class. I know now how to better hide my dirty looks when i don't like something or someone, and how to detect if someone doesn't like you. My favorite part was the midterm it was so much easier than the final. All in all i loved the class and the teacher, when people ask what teach they should take i always recommend Ms. Canuto.

  35. When i started this class I really thought it was going to be difficult and boring but you were such a fun teacher. When we started doing speeches it was nerve wrecking but you helped me by giving me tips on how to do better and I applied those tips to my individual speech and I think I did good. What I like about your class was how interesting you made it. For example, you always had funny pictures and videos in your powerpoints and you always used personal examples which made me listen. And also you were always encouraging us to do better and giving us a lot of extra credit opportunity. Thank you for being so helpful.

  36. I couldn't have picked a better professor than prof.Canuto. I've really learn a lot in a short amount of time and excited to see how I can implement what I've learned in my chosen career. I came into this class not knowing how much human communication relates so much to my life both personally and professionally, and to be able to learn how to speak in front of an audience is very rewarding, although I must admit that I was scared out of my mind to speak in front of others at the beginning of the semester. My favorite part was the first day of class when you showed us the Charlie Chapman speech, to me the video is very intriguing and I've watched it more than once. Ms. Canuto is very cool, calm and collective and really cares about her students. I wouldn't change anything, and thank you so much for providing me with the information to understand human communication.

I will take the importance of learning and using what I've learnt to improve my character. My favorite part about the class was the persuasive speeches. I liked the group informative speeches they were very nice.

  38. This semester being in Ms. Canuto Speech course I have learned many things, different views, ideas and aspects of life. The most important thing that I learned was how to solve problems and do your best. I learned that communication is the key, without it theirs no understanding or way to help solve problems or solutions in life. its different to just talk about how to communicate and understand how to solve or make solutions in all aspects of your life. instead of actually doing it and having to put action into your life by solving problems and making the solutions. This semester i can say that I actually used what I learned to make solutions in my life and used ways to communicate better with family, friends, and colleges to make solve my problems and make life easier for not only me but the people around me. I would like to thank Ms. Cantuo for being a great influence in my life and the choices I have made this semester, that I will continue using in my life.

At the start of this course I swore it was going be terribly boring but it turned out to be different. I enjoyed the the jokes the used to make the material memorable because it definitely worked; good job professor Canuto. I highly recommend people to take her class. Talking in front of a big group of people is something that I've done many times in the past but each time is just like the first. I'd have to say that the presentation portion of the class had to be my favorite because you get to enlighten others with material that they most probably wouldn't research on their own. I will forever carry the things that I learned in this speech course. Thanks for everything professor Canuto you're the best.

I learned that people will always have their own opinion to anything no matter what. But Professor Canuto you are the best! I wont forget the jokes and all the other memorable times in this class. Thank You Professor Canuto for teaching me about communication in so many different ways. Also for entertaining us and making the class so much fun. I would highly recommend you to others because you are a great professor and has inspired me alot. And by caring so much about your students. Thank you so much.
