As we explored nonverbal communication, one of the topics covered was chronemics - the study of the role of time in communication. Head over to
The College Board website to learn 8 ways to take control of your time, and comment below on ways you can improve your time management in college, as well as techniques that help you right now.
Some techniques that have been helping me to get through college is my planner. I write down homework, notes to catch up on, test and when to study for them, and things that I need to do outside of school. Like work, going to the gym, events with family or friends. I also have a section for notes; I use that section to help me remember dates and other things I need to do.
ReplyDeleteI usually take picture or download the note in class to my phone, that way I can spend little bit of time read through them once or twice a day. It very helpful to memorize also make me feel comfortable. I am not making schedule for myself but I can manage my time, like when I start doing homework I usually not doing anything else until I finish my homework.
ReplyDeleteI have learned to write everything down, Specially if the teacher mentions it during the lecture. By having everything written down you are not going back an forth on what needs to be done. Setting time out in advance strictly for my homework has been the most helpful for me. I'm easily distracted, so I do not start another task until I have completed my homework. To help me with managing time I will start using a calendar to keep track of test and assignment due dates.
ReplyDeleteI was scrolling through a few comments and found that a colleague downloads their notes to study while they're on the go so they can study when they have time available - I will be stealing this idea for sure. I'm constantly busy with something, but when work's slow or I'm just waiting for an accountant at the bank (as I am now) I stress about the time I'm wasting being academically unproductive while being real-world productive. I carry my homework and planner everywhere I go, which helps a lot with planning my time management. I make it a personal goal to complete every task on my daily to-do list before I get home so I can unwind.

One way I study involves going over my notes while my husband and I carpool to work in the morning. The drive is usually about 35 minutes long, so I'm able to get a decent amount of reading done during that time. Before I go to sleep I read whatever required chapters I need to finish. I always make sure I get enough sleep. That way, my memory is refreshed and I can continue doing other homework related tasks right after work without immediately going to sleep.
ReplyDeleteSome techniques that help me right now with my time management is keeping a notepad in my binder and writing on it during my classes if my professors brings up any assignment that will be due soon or homework. I also plan my assignments out on a calendar so i know what i have to work on that day. One way I can improve my time management in college is by not getting distracted, if i get occupied in something else it makes me lose out on time for homework and also takes me a while to get back on track.
ReplyDeleteManaging both working and going to school full time could be tough. Something that helps me keep track and keep aware of what's coming up, is my planner. I have a planner where i write down upcoming events (tests, quizzes, work, study time) i have to do. It helps me know when and where I have to be and what I have to be doing. I think it's very important to have planned out what you're going to do instead of saving everything for last minute. I like to be organized and ready to go.
ReplyDeleteWays and techniques that i use to study is by, writing down all of the notes even if the teacher says it's important or not. Before a big test i'll study a few days before going to the whole notes that i took down, going over all of the notes takes up about 15 minutes of my time throughout the day; which is perfect. As a few colleagues said above, taking a picture or downloading the notes; that's a good technique most people can use if they don't feel like taking down notes
ReplyDeleteIm the type of person that likes to have everything organized and figure out what needs to be done before I go anywhere. That's why I write everything down so I wont forget and try to squeeze it in my schedule. That's the only way I know for a fact I will get everything that needs to be done asap. I sometimes time myself to know how long it takes me to do a certain thing. That is also very helpful.
ReplyDeleteThe most efficient method I use to take care of my time is jotting down on a calendar what I have planned for the week and what needs to be done by what time. Also I try my best to get everything I need to get done before hand so that way if there are any last minute assignments I need to take care of I can easily do it. A way I can improve the way I use my time in college is by using that extra time I have in between work and school to study.
ReplyDeleteThere are many efficient ways to successfully manage your time, one method that has really helped me is writing down objectives and homework assignments in my daily journal. I always remember to check it everyday and it helps me remember exactly what has to be done for that particular day or week. A way I can improve this is by actually doing my homework when I know I have time. I tend to procrastinate quite a bit and cutting that down would be extremely beneficial to my academic life.
ReplyDeleteI learned about time management the hard way when I was in high school. Once I started college and working full time it got harder, but I learned how manage my time. I focus on what is important the most, for example homework. I make sure to complete any assignment I get before any thing else. Completing it a head a time make is a lot easier because later on I have time for family friends and hobbies. It's important to have self control and spend time on what is most important at the time.
ReplyDeleteThe best way to control your time and be productive is to find that time and budget time. There's going to be a time in everyone's life where they have to set aside their enjoyments to find a time to study. Putting aside video games or television will be beneficial because it's not going anywhere. When you find the right time to focus on school, use that time to make progress and get as much done as you can.
