"The Marine Corps is under orders to open up its ground combat units - one of the last all-male bastions in the military - to women, but it has been unable to find any female capable of making it through its three-month infantry officer course..." (Read more

What do you think about women joining the Marines and serving regularly in combat zones?
This is a big step forward for equality for women in the military. Melissa proves that the marines aren't just for males but for females as well. In the video it looks like Melissa has some struggles but manages to complete her given task. However, sexual assault and harassment will most likely happen if women join the Marines, because some men will just see women as a piece of meat.
ReplyDeleteI think that if women can endure the same conditions as men do and are fixed on serving on the battlefield then they should be allowed to. However, it is apparent that males are more effective on the battlefield because they contain testosterone which induces more strength and they are not hindered by other physical properties such as mentioned in the video with the wider hips.
ReplyDeleteI think the reason why only 1/20 of women can pass because usually man have a better physical than women. But it doesn't mean that women cannot serviing for the military, we have to treat equally to everyone. for me the gender doesn't affect how they can serve the world and they can be qualified to join the Marines and serving regularly in combat zones when they pass the test no matter what gender are they
ReplyDeleteI think woman joining the Marines is an amazing way to show how gender does not matter. Everyone is capable of doing anything as long as they put their mind to it. Of course it is dangerous, but it can be dangerous for anyone not just woman. I love that there are females willing to show that women can do anything just as good as a man. It's not about the physical appearance, it's about the mindset and how they can handle what their getting themselves into.
ReplyDeleteIf women can pass the physical training and if they're willing and able to undergo the same mental requirements that men have to go through, then they should be able to serve in combat roles. However, I believe there is no reason to add women to combat roles when there are already so many men serving in those roles. There is also to consider medical issues, sexual harassment, higher risk of torture and rape if they get captured by societies who hate women.
ReplyDeleteI believe that every women has the right to enter the Marines as any male that enter the Marines. They are as ambitious, committed, dedicated and capable to their work as much as men do. When it comes to physical fitness, men do have more muscle mass than women do because of the way our bodies are built, however, women are capable of building those muscles to allow them to be physical fit for the combat zones. I believe women should have the same opportunities as men do in the Marines branch.
ReplyDeleteAs a woman in the 21st Century, my opinion about women serving regularly in the military is absolutely inspirational. Back until the mid 1900's, women had just been allowed to join our military; but now, women around the country are striving to become US Marines. Though this branch in the military generally requires more strenuous training; it is physically challenging for women in specific. I think its amazing that today's women are that dedicated to earn this kind of role in our military.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, I am all for women joining the Marines, or any military branch, I believe women can do as much as men can when we put our minds to it. If they can pass the physical and mental tests then they should be allowed to serve for their country. This inspires other women that they can achieve anything they set there minds too,
ReplyDeleteAny person that decides to go to the marines knows that what they are trying to accomplish will not be an easy task. Everyone knows nothing in life is free or easy. You got to work hard for what you want.In other words people can do anything they set their mind to do. Anything is possible. So if a woman wants to join the marines and serve regularly in combat zones that is fine with me.
ReplyDeleteI have no issue with a woman joining the marine corps. It is a extremely challenging task to achieve, but if a woman feels the need to join then we should not interfere. Although from a biological stand point men do tend to be bigger in size. So by lowering the standards slightly for woman would only be fair. If a woman Is capable of meeting the required expectations then I have no issue with her fighting for our country.
ReplyDeleteThis amazing to see women breaking down gender roles and challenging male dominated feilds. If a woman can meet all the requiremnets then she has every right to be there. It is refreshing to see this happening more and more often. In order to remove gender sterotypes they must have brave people to challenge them. These women are making history by attempting/ finishing these challenges. These women are proving that not only should gender roles be challenged but broken!
ReplyDeleteI think that it is great that women are wanting to do what men normally do. Time are changing and we are already seeing that women are starting to enter more roles that was so heavily dominated by men. This could be an advantage for us since there could be a different perspective that women offer. Women should have every right to enter into a male dominated field with out being judged or discriminated for it. If they have what it takes to get the job done then they deserve to be in that field.
