Welcome to the magazine party

Do you read magazines? Which ones are your favorites? How do you get them? What are your thoughts on magazine advertising? Which are some of the most memorable magazine ads you can think of and what makes them memorable?

  1. I read magazines, but mostly I use the "apps" or "snap chat stories" to read them now. The one magazine I will religiously buy if I am in the mood at Publix is People. I love and trust them. They do a variety of entertainment and up to date news whether serious or petty. Magazine advertising is pretty appealing, they are usually full page ads. Smoking ads, I love the fragrance ads that have the scent on the page attached, I dislike the medical ads I typically don't read those. Memorable ads would be the different fragrances they have sex appeal and offer a sample of the product.

  2. I don't really read magazines, however, I have gone through ESPN magazines since I'm a big sports enthusiast. I believe magazine advertisements to be not the most effective but definitely more relevant than our last blog, newspaper ads. Something that I do recall being memorable is the scented sheets companies put in the magazine to promote a fragrance. I remember finding that neat and enjoying the fact you can smell a cologne in a magazine.

  3. I usually only read magazines when I am traveling, but other than that I do not go out of my way to purchase them. I read your typical gossip magazines purely for entertainment. Some of these magazines include US Weekly, People, In Touch, Cosmopolitan, etc. I typically purchase them in airport convenient stores or while I am shopping for items before I leave for a trip (usually at Target). I do not have a most memorable ad that I can think of because I usually just flip right past the advertisements to get to the actual articles. Most of the advertisements that I've seen in magazines have been fairly generic and not worth glancing at.

  4. My favorite magazine in high school was Cosmopolitan because of the funny articles. I felt like the advertising was directed towards my age group and it was usually things I would consider buying. Now, I am more interested in People but I do not like any magazine enough to have a subscription. People magazine seems to be more honest and does not exaggerate as much as other magazines. Their advertising targets mothers and people a little bit older but I like the articles about nutrition and celebrities.

  5. I read, on occasion, Wine Spectator, Travelers, National Geographic, and Gourmet Magazine. My favorite is Wine Spectator. I really like their large format layout and beautiful ads and photos. I receive them through the mail. I feel magazine advertising is still very relevant, especially to niche target audiences similar to to ones that read the kind of magazines that I do. I think the most memorable ad that I have seen lately was an ad for Stag's Leap wine. It had great imagery and a cleaver use of a play on words and imagery.

  6. I don't read magazines as much as I used to, mainly for lack of time, but I still enjoy reading them when I get the chance. Currently the only magazine is Cosmopolitan, which I receive by mail, because I like the combination of being able to read about real world issues, as well as get health, beauty, and life tips all in one convenient package. I think magazine advertising has to be particularly creative and eye catching to avoid readers flipping past them as soon as they see that it's an ad. I'm more inclined to read advertisements if they are full page, and are geared towards my interests. I can only think of one ad that was memorable, and I don't remember what it was for, but it showed a baby crib, and I think it was implying something about teen pregnancy. I remember it referencing prom, and I think it was memorable because it was a powerful statement about the reality of getting pregnant as a teenager.

I don't usually read magazines. If I do, it's normally on the plane when I can't access my wifi. I haven't subscribed to a magazine since I was 11 but have occasionally picked up some when traveling to read. I never pay attention to any of the advertisements unless its SkyMall. In my opinion, the most memorable ads are the simplistic ones that are witty. The more content on the page, the less likely I am to look further into the product that is being promoted.

  8. All throughout my life I've never really read magazines. When I was younger I would occasionally pick up something from the racks at the grocery stores to take home, but even that eventually stopped around the time I turned 17. As such, I have difficulty recalling any distinctive magazine ads.

  9. It been a long time that I don't read magazine. I usually read online blogs or articles instead. I only read magazines if I am bored (while waiting for a doctor appointment) but I don't really read, I just pass my eyes by it. I think the magazines advertising are a good thing but must be very well thought because must be very attractive to call people's attention. I can't remember any specific magazine advertising, but I usually like those that are full page and have some appealing message. I also think is effective to make humorous ads in this occasions, because people are usually bored while reading magazines and that would be a good way make catch their attention. I also like those interactive adds (like "smell here to feel the perfume)

  10. Yes, I am subscribed to Ski magazine. My favorite magazines have anything to do with extreme winter sports. I am subscribed to ski magazine and they send them directly to my address. I honestly blow right past the advertisements most of the time. The most memorable advertisement that i have come across was an ad offering a discount on high end snowboards.

  11. I read Alternative Press, which is a magazine of the kind of music I like. I get them by mail because I like having the printed copy. I think magazine advertising is very effective, mostly because there are so many ways to "tune out" or skip television or radio ads, but it's difficult to completely block out the magazine ads. I like ads that are minimalistic, have bold graphics, or that use humor. I also read food magazines (and I'm also currently hungry...) so the only ads that I can think of right now are like for Heinz ketchup when they spell out words with ketchup, or Goldfish crackers on a hand-drawn background.
