PRIMETIME TRANSMEDIA

Think of your favorite television show or series. Do some research and describe any transmedia elements associated with it. For instance, take a look at Downton Abbey's homepage and all that it offers. Does your chosen show have a fictional website? Do the characters have their own social media accounts? Can you participate in the story through the internet?

  1. My favorite television show is First Take. First Take a sports talk show on ESPN with Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. Both Skip and Stephen have twitter accounts and they use it frequently to start up different conversations about certain teams, players, and games. First Take does not have it's own website but you can access previously aired episodes or listen to the different podcasts they have. First Take does have it's own twitter handle and that account brings up different sports topics that are happening at that moment as well as different podcasts and sports news articles.

  2. My favorite tv American Horror Story has a website but I do not believe it necessarily classifies as being trans media. As an idea I personally came up with is to basically make a website like Voyager but you would be able to look into the different rooms in the hotel. You would be able to explore the different stories of each of the guests. This would be a perfect element to add because every room was has terrible and disturbing thing occur in the past and in the present. they should also the option to switch between the past and the present to view the rooms. It would help link all of the stories together and add a web element.

  3. One of my favourite shows is Pretty Little Liars. Their official website has all types of what that you can interact with it. They website has links at the bottom of the page to each of the actors and actresses where you can click on their names and you can know what they are currently doing. It also has an option on the right part of the page that links to all their social media pages: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Google. There are also links to the most recent news, their episodes, and videos of the actresses and actors talking about the episodes. I think they do a pretty good job of engaging the audience either in social media and with this webpage, because you can interact with all kinds of different option to get more information about them. You can participate by answering the tweets, or writing comment on their Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.

  4. Adventure Time's website isn't that interactive it is the normal Cartoon Network site, some mini games and videos of the show, Adventure Time also has a few comics that contain side stories or more information on a few stories and have some actually games for consoles and pc that tell even more side stories, all around they just try to get people to be able to see them, they could very well add more to everything they do, their website could be more interactive and with some more entertaining elements and their games could be a lot better rather than the basic rpg maker like element but other than that they do reach a few different medias.

  5. For the show How I Met Your Mother there is not a website devoted directly to the show. However, CBS and fans of the show have created websites that were mentioned throughout the series. Most of the websites are ones mentioned by Barnie who is a character on the show. I found lists of these sites, but had trouble getting most of the links to work. There are also several parody Twitter accounts pretending to be the show's characters. There aren't any unique interactive qualities to the sites or Twitter accounts, but it is interesting to see how fans become so involved in a show that they work to bring it alive in real life.

  6. My favorite T.V show is Chicago PD. The does not have a fictional website. Their website just gives information and clips of episodes. Each episode has something new for the deactivates to solve, while still holding a storyline from the pervious episode. It would be cool if the website let you help write episode and have them create it in a way. The actors involved with Chicago PD are very active with social media. When the show airs each week a lot of them are living tweeting with their fans on Twitter. They will interact with each other and let their fans ask them questions. I never get to watch the show when it airs, so I typically skip over the conversation when I see on Twitter.

  7. While the Game of Thrones website doesn't have any official fake websites or social media accounts, fans have created their own based off of the characters. People can interact with them on twitter and the owner will respond in character. The official twitter account does promote audience interaction by creating their own hashtags for fans to tweet their thoughts. Since the show takes place in different locations and involves many characters, they could create an interactive map for fans to explore that would update after each episode. Fans could follow the story of the characters through the map and read about locations that were maybe mentioned in the show, but are never seen.

  8. I did some research about Grey's Anatomy, and was surprised to find that it would be considered a multiform platform. Grey's Anatomy has another series which ties into the first fictional world that is Seattle Grace Hospital. The second series is called Private Practice, which follow's Derek Shepard's ex-wife, Addison Montgomery in her new job. The two shows allow for a media synergy, as the fictional world expands for the audience. We learn more about Addison after she leaves Seattle Grace and starts her own practice than we did while she was in the hospital, so her backstory begins to grow and we gain a larger understanding of the characters.

I also learned that there is two web-series for Grey's Anatomy called, "Seattle Grace: on call" and "Seattle Grace: Messages of Hope." Lastly, there is also an interactive video game, where players can choose to be a certain character, meet new people in the fictional world, and make decisions. There are parody accounts of some of the characters and there are also fan Twitter accounts that allow you to interact and live tweet with each other during the show.

  9. Game of Thrones has a website featuring information about the show, clips such as trailers and old audition tapes, and links to related information. It is worthy of note that one of the links is labeled "join the conversation," and leads to a message board where fans can discuss the show. That is the only real invitation for viewer participation that I found.

  10. One show that I like to watch that uses transmedia would be pretty little liars. Since the beginning they have always used hash tags to get people to go online with the show. They would have members of the cast tweet while the show was airing as well as sometimes have them shown in commercial breaks talking about the show especially during season finals. There are some other things they used like “A is everywhere” “#ADay” or #WorldWarA” these caught on twitter an instagram keeping viewers into the show. They keep the suspense going. Their twitter page for PLL interacts with fans constantly and do many question and response features where one cast member will takeover the twitter account for a day and answer questions that come through. Pretty Little liars does a good job of promoting their show, by creating these has tags you get more and more people to interact and then watch the show. They are interacting with their audience by going to where they are and that is on social media sites especially twitter.

  11. One of my favorite series is The Heirs, a Korean series, which does not have any fictional website from its producer, but fans are very interactive on media. They even create many fan page for the film and the characters. During the film is shown on Television, after each episode, there were talking about it on Facebook a lot, and they give their guessing about what will happen next. The film also brought for a temporary trend in many Asian countries, dream catcher. The Heirs 's fan create hashtag on Instagram like #dreamcatcher# or #kimtan#, the main character. Those hashtag's result even show girls and boys in the same fashion of characters in the film.
